On Saturday, August 14th 2021 at 8:29 am, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Southern Haiti, destroying much of the region’s infrastructure and straining the area’s healthcare facilities. Within the hour, BHI’s team had already mobilized, working with partners on the ground to provide assessments, assistance, and relief.
In the months that have followed, BHI completed 6 structural safety assessments, equipped trauma and orthopedic surgery spaces with over 10,000 pounds of life-saving medical supplies, and managed the challenging supply chain through collaboration with 41 partners. These essential relief services were all made possible thanks to the generosity of donors like you.
As Haiti continues to recover from the earthquake and face additional challenges as a nation, our work is far from over. In addition to earthquake relief, BHI continues to build and bolster healthcare infrastructure across Haiti. This week, BHI completed construction of the Boucan Carre Clinic, which will expand access to women’s healthcare in the region.
Thank you again for helping us provide rapid and critical relief following the earthquake. We are grateful to have you on our team as we build towards a future of greater health equity in Haiti.
