Greene Lamp Community Action continues to assist individuals and families who have been negatively impacted by Covid 19 by providing relief with rental, utility, and food needs. Families, with school-aged children, expressed the need for technology items such as tablets, and wi-fi subscriptions. Greene Lamp has provided 7" tablets to some low-income families and linked the families with other educational resources. As well, the Agency has provided food distributions by-monthly including protein items and fresh produce. The rural areas served by Greene Lamp contain food deserts whereby low-income families lack daily nutritional needs. This food distribution has been immensely important for the young children served. Historical data indicates that many low-income children do not receive food with proper nutrition outside of the meals provided during school hours. Therefore, the GlobalGiving funds were critical to ensuring said children were able to receive nutritious food items for a balanced diet. Prior to and following the ending of the NC HOPE program, Greene Lamp assisted families with rent and utility payments which allowed individuals and families to remain in their homes and keep the utilities turned on.
