Dear Friends,
We would like to thank everyone who has supported our newest project to help the Maasai community of Engii rebuild their church following the devastating damage caused by recent heavy rains.
Although fundraising is still in its early stages, the determination shown by the community has been truly inspiring. Rather than waiting for outside assistance, villagers have already begun organising themselves, contributing what they can and planning how the new church can be rebuilt to better withstand the increasingly extreme weather conditions affecting northern Tanzania.
For now, church services continue beneath the shade of a nearby tree. While this demonstrates the strength of the community's faith and commitment, it is far from ideal. During the rainy season, worship, community meetings and celebrations are frequently disrupted, leaving the village without a reliable gathering place when it is needed most.
The church is much more than a building. It is where families come together to celebrate weddings and baptisms, mourn loved ones, support one another through difficult times and strengthen the bonds that make this remote community so resilient. It is also an important place where local information is shared, friendships are formed and community decisions are made.
As planning continues, we are working with community leaders to ensure that every donation is used as effectively as possible. The priority is securing durable building materials that will create a stronger, more resilient structure capable of withstanding the heavier rainfall events that are becoming increasingly common due to climate change. By investing in quality materials now, we hope to reduce future repair costs and provide the community with a church that will serve generations to come.
While we still have a long way to go to reach our fundraising target, every contribution—large or small—helps move the project forward. Each donation brings the people of Engii one step closer to once again having a safe, permanent place to worship, gather and support one another.
Thank you for helping this remarkable community rebuild not only a church, but the heart of village life. Your kindness and generosity are giving hope to families who remain committed to their faith and to one another despite the challenges they face.
With sincere thanks,
Leigh
