Your Impact on Rohingya Families

By Joah McGee | Executive Director

Following Ramadan, your generosity has continued to make a meaningful difference for Rohingya families by supporting long-term livelihood opportunities instead of short-term assistance alone.

Through your support, we launched a small poultry livelihood initiative in Taungbway Village to help families begin rebuilding a sustainable source of food and income. 40 Rohingya families, representing 317 people, each received two breeding chickens to start raising poultry at home.

To ensure the chickens are used for breeding rather than immediate consumption or sale, every chicken was marked with colored identification, and recipients confirmed receipt through thumbprint verification. This simple accountability measure helps protect the project's long-term purpose while encouraging families to grow their own flocks over time. The project documentation also includes photographs of the distribution and recipient verification process.

The project utilized 3,720,000 MMK for purchasing and transporting 80 chickens, with only 59,000 MMK remaining after all expenses. Despite transportation challenges that required moving supplies by boat, the distribution was completed successfully and reached every intended household.

For families who continue to face displacement and limited livelihood opportunities, these chickens represent more than livestock. They provide the opportunity to produce eggs for household nutrition, hatch future generations of poultry, and gradually build a more resilient source of income. By investing in livelihoods alongside emergency assistance, we hope to help Rohingya families strengthen their self-reliance while preserving their dignity.

Thank you for standing with Rohingya communities. Your support continues to provide not only immediate relief but also practical opportunities that help families look toward a more stable future.
