Story of 10 years Girl Bride Saved from Child Marriage by Nikah Khawan (performer of marriage rituals)
‘I heard the weeping of a girl in my village, went to her home and saw that she was trembling, crying and sobbing and suffocating in fear. On my inquiry, mother of 10 year old girl Amina told that her marriage has been fixed and therefore she is crying’ said Nikahkhawans (prayer leader and performer of religious marriages ritual) whom we have trained against child marriages. ‘I went to anti child marriage village committee coordinator and shared the incident with him. We went to village head and requested him to help in preventing the illegal and cruel marriage. We went to the parents of bride and bride groom and after long arguments the minor girl was saved from the inhuman practice of child marriage.
We thank supporters of this project for helping us to save the lives of the minor girls like Amina, who fall victim to child marriages, common in Sindh province of Pakistan.
Further progress: SSO received invitation to participate in a policy dialogue against child marriages, held at Lahore, Punjab- Pakistan; our team members met there with minister and after congratulating her on the passing of a new law against child marriages, urged her for awareness on law and its implementation; government has launched a publicity campaign in media against child marriages which is reaching to hundreds of thousands of people.
What do you think? We need your more support to train the key persons of influence. And aware the parents not to destroy the lives of their minor girls by marrying them in their tender age of school and playing?
