Through Rafiki Mtaani, we continue to help provide children with food, safety, washing, care and support, but also belonging. Rafiki Mtaani is about giving children who have been pushed to the edges of the world a place to be seen, celebrated and loved.
Many in our Mtaani family have lost their national identity card, which makes the lives of these vulnerable people even more difficult. They can’t use government services, gain employment or vote in elections. The replacement fee of KSh 1,050 (approx $11 AUD) is out of reach when you are struggling every day to find enough funds to fill your belly.
With your help, the Mtaani Team recently accompanied six of our Mtaani family members to the Nakuru Huduma Centre, where kind staff helped them through the complicated process of reclaiming their identity.
Our founder Sarah recently travelled to Kenya to check in with the team on the ground, and for the first time her husband and daughter came with her. Together they visited the Mtaani project, a truly moving experience for all, and they got treated to a very special dance performance by one of our Rafiki Mtaani family members. He performed a dance he had choreographed himself to “Rise Little Lion”, the song we created for our Mtaani family, and he performed with so much pride, joy and courage that it stopped us in our tracks.
This is Rafiki Mtaani.
