Rafiki Mtaani: Walking Alongside 222 Lives This Year
This financial year, Rafiki Mtaani has continued to provide consistent, life-changing support to children and young people living on the streets of Nakuru. Our outreach has reached a current community of 222 individuals (187 boys and 33 girls), offering essential daily care and connection. Together, we have served 29,653 meals and provided 4,234 showers—meeting immediate needs while creating safe, trusted spaces where young people can begin to stabilise and rebuild. Alongside this, we have supported 48 children to take the courageous step of leaving the streets, and invested KSH 2,412,056 into the program, including KSH 17,760 in critical medical care.
One of these stories is *Rudy, a young boy who recently shared his desire to return home. After careful checks to ensure his family environment was safe and supportive, our team met him in town as he prepared for the journey. With a small amount of support for transport, Rudy was able to reunite with his family. Reintegration is never a single moment - it’s a process - and we continue to walk alongside him as he adjusts, supporting his wellbeing and encouraging positive steps forward.
Beyond individual journeys, the sense of community within Mtaani continues to grow. This month, our boys and girls participated in a local football tournament, sharing the field with the wider community and finishing second and third - an experience filled with pride, connection and joy. At the same time, our outreach teams have continued to respond to medical needs and deepen engagement with younger children in the CBD who are beginning to seek support. Each interaction is an opportunity - to listen, to care, and to offer a different path forward.
Through every meal, every conversation, and every step off the street, Rafiki Mtaani continues to create moments of stability, dignity and hope - walking alongside each young person as they navigate their journey toward a safer future.
