Millions of marginalized people in riverine areas (island) of Bangladesh, including the often neglected Third Gender community and underprivileged families, are unable to afford meat even once a year. This project aims to distribute Qurbani meat during Eid-ul-Adha to 1,000+ families across riverine areas (island), slums and nearby areas, promoting food security, dignity, and religious inclusion.
According to a 2022 UNICEF report, over 31% of people in Bangladesh live below the national poverty line, and many from the Third Gender (Hijra) community, who number approximately 12,000 officially (UNDP, 2021), face social exclusion and limited employment opportunities. For them, Eid is just another day of hunger. Moreover, a 2023 FAO report showed that over 37 million people in Bangladesh are food insecure, and the high price of sacrificial animals puts meat beyond reach for many.
Pathway will organize the collection, sacrifice, and distribution of goats and cows for Qurbani. Meat will be hygienically packed and distributed among: 1. 500 Third Gender individuals 2. 500+ families in urban slums and rural poor communities 3. Orphans and persons with disabilities in selected shelters We will ensure proper religious observance, nutritional balance, and community celebration.
This project not only addresses immediate hunger during Eid, but also strengthens social integration of the Third Gender community, reinforcing their right to celebrate and be respected. It also builds trust with marginalized groups and sets a foundation for future skill-based or income-generating initiatives led by Pathway.
