Challenge

Like most urban poor areas, 3 barangays of informal settlers in Quezon City were among hardest hit by floods, housing damage, loss of properties due to typhoon Crising hitting the Philippines. Close to 500 families have to be evacuated for a week. With no efficient disaster response programs, these families would depend on relief assistance like food water, medicines, hospital treatments to survive and be well to recompose themselves for rebuilding which would not come easy as well

Solution

The fund relief would augment food, water, clothing, medical assistance in the short term keeping affected families have sufficient food and treatments and supply of basic needs while incapacitated in evacuation centers. In rebuilding their houses, the fund could provide roofing and wood materials to repair damage houses, water supply, electrical connections and sustain children to go back to schools when weather normalizes. This will help repair motorcycles used in delivery jobs to keep incomes

Long-Term Impact

It will prevent further deterioration of housing infrastructures, avoid health related complexities, revive livelihood activities and thus enable families to put food on the table and send children to the school. Further it helps build resiliency and avoid succumbing to mental and emotional problems and be equipped further to prepare as much as possible for the next storm, floods and property destruction. It will also encourage governments and communities to cooperate in addressing calamity
