Project Report | Mar 2, 2020
Greetings from Cuetzalan del Progreso - our first report 2020!

Students working in their classroom

Our students came back from their December vacations with lots of enthusiasm and ready for work. In their online classes they had to get used to a couple of changes that the online platform had, and the last graders are preparing for their CENEVAL test which will occur on March, as well as exploring options of Universities which they might be attending next school year.

Meanwhile, in January students got new desks, chairs and lockers. We fenced our property, and bought new tools for our farming workshop, to tend better and more efficiently our different vegetables, fruits, coffee, and maize.

In their elective workshops the students are also are working hard; in the bamboo workshop the students have cut and brought bamboo to the workshop, and created with it two bookshelves, two large armchairs, a couple of chairs, a table, a lamp, and lots of flower and plant pots. One student has already started making a dog house in his own time and with his own tools!

In the textile workshop they created bags for their computers, and a variety of upscaled and made from scratch clothes. Also, one student is working in a textile workshop to help pay her tuition and with other expenses.

In the graphic arts workshop they worked with their self-portrait in drawing, and then linocut carving and printing. This exercise also served to reflect on the students’ identity and what elements are important to them.

In the horticulture workshop we had our first harvest of coffee beans in the year (they smell truly delicious!!), the maize sowed in December is successfully growing, the medicine garden was reactivated, and new food plants were germinated (lettuce, coriander, carrot, radish, beans, potato, chard, and "jícama").

All the workshops are working together, striving to achieve an assorted variety of goods to sell next upcoming April Vacations (Holy week). We receive a good amount of tourism and we are hoping to make an impact with our products... the profits will both help the students in their personal expenses and the school to continue its workshops and work. We are striving to also have an online sale! Stay put!

THANK YOU FOR MAKING ALL THIS POSSIBLE!
