Brave Hearts Ethiopia (BHE) continued providing holistic care and educational opportunities to vulnerable children, young people, and families during the third quarter of 2026. This quarter, BHE supported 76 children and nine elders, helping children continue their education while addressing the challenges that can affect their well-being and school success.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
During the summer break, professional volunteer tutors delivered 191 tutorial sessions in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and General Science for students in Grades 5 to 12. Children also participated in 114 extracurricular sessions, combining academic practice with reading, drawing, coloring, beadwork, and recreation. Access to library resources, supervised internet use, worksheets, and learning materials helped children continue developing their skills outside the regular school year.
Children also celebrated important academic achievements. Four students passed the Grade 8 regional examination and progressed to Grade 9, while two of the three children who sat the Grade 6 regional examination passed. Students who passed the Grade 12 national examination were recognized at BHE’s annual awards ceremony on September 7. Fourteen children received awards for academic excellence, alongside other children recognized for their participation and achievements in summer activities.
Supporting Children’s Everyday Needs
Education is difficult when basic needs remain unmet. During the quarter, BHE provided monthly food allowances to 70 children and nine elders, supplementary food to four children with health-related needs, and rent assistance to four child-headed households. Thirty-nine children received clothing purchased through program support, and donated clothing was also distributed. BHE further provided soap and sanitary pads, supported children requiring medical care, and continued psychosocial guidance for children and guardians.
Through home visits, staff assessed the living conditions and needs of 24 children and six elders, helping identify concerns related to housing, hygiene, health, and family relationships.
A Memorable End to Summer
To celebrate the end of the summer break, 40 BHE children and youth enjoyed a trip to Bora Amusement Park in Addis Ababa. For many, it was their first time experiencing amusement rides, creating joyful memories and sharing a special day together.
Strengthening Families and Celebrating Progress
BHE continued working with caregivers through the Tiret Lifere Saving and Credit Cooperative Society, which had 80 members. Savings activities, meetings, and technical support helped strengthen caregivers’ capacity to support their families.
The quarter also brought opportunities for children to express themselves, build friendships, and set goals for the new school year. These achievements reflect the importance of consistent support, encouragement, and opportunities to learn.
Looking Ahead: Our Annual Fundraising Gala
As we celebrate the progress made this quarter, we are also looking ahead to Brave Hearts Ethiopia’s Annual Fundraising Gala at 5 PM on November 28, 2026, at Footscray Town Hall in Melbourne, Australia. The event will bring our community together to raise awareness and support for vulnerable children and families in Ethiopia. Funds raised will help sustain BHE’s educational support, essential care, and opportunities for children to build brighter futures. We are grateful to everyone who continues to stand with us and make this work possible.
