Peer to peer support is one of the key aspects of the BHE quality education program. There are currently six youth in our program who are studying for their university degree in various fields. They are an inspiration to the younger children in the program. Those who study in campuses nearby like Asnaku, who is in her 4th year of university earning her Accounting Degree, often come to mentor the younger children in school.
There are currently twenty vulnerable children and youth attending primary and high school education. They are supported with individualized tutorial support and regular school follow up. Ten of these students will be taking the national exam this year, BHE is taking steps to identify their academic needs and help them earn better results. Supervised computer and internet access is provided to the children in order to support them with their school assignments and projects. The BHE library also provides students with access to different materials to support their learning and reading skills.
Sinafikish is one of the girls in the BHE program who is now in 12th grade. She is excited and working hard to pass to university. Sinafikish aspires to become a pediatric cardiologist to support her country. Asnaku helps her and other youth in the program in their studies and shows them that it is possible to make their dreams come true through their education.
Peer to peer support along with tutorials helps inspire the children by seeing examples of success from youth who have been through the challenges they faced. Inspiration and peer support also comes from the community. This quarter, volunteer students from Bingham Academy, a school in town, presented the children with study books and materials. The students have previously volunteered at the BHE drop in center, providing peer tutorials and literary services to the children.
Thank you for supporting BHE in its work of ensuring vulnerable youth have the quality education they deserve so they may succeed and inspire other youth!
