Summary

Helping Refugees Heal, Learn & Thrive We help refugees in Nakivale, Uganda, recover from trauma, integrate into schools, and build peaceful communities. Our programs provide psychosocial support for children, language bridging for school readiness, and training for elders as community peacebuilders. We empower parents with positive parenting skills and foster community dialogue to resolve conflicts and strengthen relationships.

Challenge

Forced displacement causes deep emotional distress, leaving many refugees struggling with trauma, language barriers, and social isolation. Children arriving in Uganda from different countries often lack the necessary language skills and emotional support to succeed in school. Parents face stress and mental health challenges, making it difficult to provide stable homes. Without peacebuilding initiatives, tensions between refugee groups and host communities can escalate, making integration harder.

Solution

The project provides counseling and emotional support for elderly refugees and children, helping them heal from trauma. Storytelling, music, and art workshops ensure traditions are passed down, strengthening identity and community pride. A cultural center will serve as a hub for mental health services, community gatherings, and cultural exchange, fostering belonging. The initiative trains elders and and youth in trauma-informed care and cultural advocacy, ensuring long-term impact.

Long-Term Impact

The Initiative will create lasting change for over 5,000 refugees in Nakivale by ensuring continued mental health support and cultural preservation. The project will help refugees overcome trauma & social isolation by offering counseling, mentorship, and intergenerational learning spaces. With a dedicated cultural center and trained community leaders, the initiative will foster unity, healing, and sustainable opportunities, strengthening the community for years to come
