Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda
Implemented by: Integrated Child Support Foundation (ICSF)
The Challenge:
Uganda hosts nearly 2 million refugees. Children arrive deeply affected by war and displacement. Mental health support is scarce and the need has never been greater.
Our Solution:
Through storytelling, art, and intergenerational support, we help refugee children heal, build resilience, and reconnect with their identity.
Our Impact This Quarter:
710 children received trauma informed psychosocial support.
12 grandparents led storytelling and healing sessions.
518 caregivers trained in positive parenting and emotional support.
40 community leaders engaged in mental health advocacy.
What Changed:
Cheerful mood rose from 18% to 99% among children.
Calmness increased from 29% to 98%.
Energy levels and sleep quality surged to 99%.
Children who were once silent now share, lead, and support others.
Real Stories:
“Enock, 13, arrived silent and withdrawn. Today, he leads mindfulness activities with peers.”
“Alice, 15, found her voice through art. She now helps younger children feel safe.”
What’s Next (May to September 2025):
Support 900 more children with MHPSS services
Train additional caregivers and elderly people
Expand suicide prevention activities
Continue community advocacy and coordination
Why We Still Need You:
With many partners withdrawing due to funding gaps, your support ensures we continue this vital work. Together, we can keep helping children like Enock and Alice heal and thrive.
Let’s continue building resilience, one child, one session, one story at a time.
Thank you for making this possible.
