Project Report | Mar 26, 2025
SAO Association in 2024

By Zoe Roth | Fundraising Manager

Dear friends and supporters,
SAO Association was able to continue its project activities in 2024 and provide support to displaced women in the two Day Centers on Lesbos and in Athens. In 2024, SAO registered a total of 6,534 visits from displaced women and 3,199 visits from their children at the two Day Centres. The high demand for psychosocial support confirms that our services are highly relevant for displaced women. The individual counselling sessions with the psychologists and social workers were fully booked throughout and only a limited number of new clients could be registered to ensure that SAO could maintain the desired quality standard. In addition to psychosocial support and assistance in meeting basic needs, the programme to build job-relevant skills, which is mainly carried out in Athens, also met with great interest. Around 70% of the clients were looking for employment or were already employed. SAO supported these clients in building and developing job-related skills. Informal Greek lessons in particular were increasingly attended by more clients. Furthermore, both the Amina Centre and the Bashira Centre are well connected with other NGOs, local authorities and public services. The two teams organised referrals to specialized NGOs last year and were in contact with hospitals and other local public services, that do not accept direct referrals.
For 2025, we hope that we can keep the doors of our Day Centres open for displaced women. Thank you for your support!
All the best,
Zoé Roth
