Santoshi spent three years of her childhood as an indentured house servant, but she promises that her four-year old daughter’s life will be vastly different from hers.
After her husband died of typhoid fever, his family threw her out of the house calling her an “ill omen.” Determined to find a new path for herself and her daughter, Santoshi completed a training program through our Vocational Education and Career Counseling Program (VECC). She also took a business development course to learn the basics of starting and running her own business.
She is now the proud owner of a food stall in her village and earns enough money to send her daughter to private school.
Tara is another successful graduate of our vocational training program. After passing her School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam – a difficult test all Nepali 10th graders must pass to go on to higher education - she attended an orientation session to learn about NYF’s VECC program. She enrolled in a 15-month lab assistant course and is now working at a lab in a village near her home. She plans to further her studies and enroll in an advanced lab assistant course.
We are so proud of Santoshi and Tara and of all the young people who are changing their lives through NYF’s vocational training programs. Your support puts these young people on the road to economic independence.
Thank you and dhyanabad!
