The beginning of a new life

Abhay Singh back to normal life
Abhay Singh back to normal life

I hope you will find it worth donating while reading this report; as you may feel the changes your donation has brought in the lives of poor people. I am happy to share that in this quarter NBJK has conducted 62 cataract surgeries and restored the vision of cataract patients. Your donations are strictly utilized for providing free eye check-up in the camps followed by cataract surgery to the needy & poor patients having cataract in their eyes. In the remote areas of Bihar and Jharkhand there are low level of awareness and medical facilities available for poor patients. There are some private clinics but that is beyond the reach of rural people. The poor people whose annual income is approximately 35000 to 40000 INR cannot afford to spend 60000 to 70000 INR for their health. Thereby, they are bound to ignore their health problems and live with their curable diseases.  I am hereby sharing two success stories of the beneficiaries who have been benefited with your kind donation.

Kaliya Devi (name changed), is 60 years old women. She belongs to Chouparan, Hazaribagh. She got married at a very young age of 10 years. Her husband was a daily wage labourer and his earning was quite less than the need of the family.  Kaliya Devi spent her whole life in poverty. In her family there are four daughters. All of her daughters are married and live with their families. She devoted all her life to her family and children and ignored her own necessities. Her husband is now at the age of 65 and due to poor health condition he is unable to do any productive work.  Therefore, they are now living with their daughter and son-in-law. Kaliya Devi’s son-in-law is a farmer and the whole family depend upon this single source of income i.e. agriculture. Kaliya Devi used to contribute by providing handholding support to her daughter in household work. But since last one year she was suffering with vision problem. At early stage she observed some problem in vision and pain in her eyes but she avoided it. Her financial condition did not allow her to go to private clinics for consultation or surgery.  Gradually with decreasing vision she started facing problems in her day to day work. One day she came to LNJP Eye Hospital’s camp and met with the camp organiser. She went through eye check-up and underwent cataract surgery as free of cost under Global Giving project. After successful cataract surgery Kaliya Devi is back to her normal life with improved vision. She is happy and confident. All her family members are happy and grateful to the donor who supported for her surgery.

One more success story is of Abhay Singh (name changed). Abhay Singh lost her mother just after his birth and his father was a driver and used to roam around in search of work . Eventually in his young age he did not get love and affection and always had lack of a good life. His aunty who adopted him, kept him as a helper in her shop. Ultimately, Abhay Singh started his life as a child labour. Abhay Singh continued this work and stayed with his aunty. At present he is 54 years old and having own family with 3 daughters and one son. But his financial condition never had been good enough to fulfil all the necessities. Since one and half years back he observed some problem in vision and pain in his eyes. In starting days he took it lightly but problem increased with time. On the day of eye camp by LNJP in his village, he met with the camp organizer. Abhay Singh was considered for free of cost surgery. After proper check-up he underwent cataract surgery under Global Giving project. After successful surgery Abhay Singh is completely fine and rejoined his work. He is thankful to the donor and to the team of Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Eye Hospital

The beneficiaries who have been operated and regained new vision are enjoying their life with enthusiasm and interest. I, on behalf of whole NBJK and the whole group of beneficiaries convey my sincere gratitude to you. I hope our commitment will fulfil their life with dignity and self-reliance.

 Thanking You

Nalini
