Hello Supporters,
Greetings from NBJK!!
Its been a while and I am back to you with our recent progress report regarding our work with your kind support. With the vision to provide quality Eye care services in the remote rural villages of Jharkhand; one of the poorest state in India, NBJK established its two eye hospitals. The hospitals are now a ray of hope for many marginalised population who cannot afford to visit the hospital and get themselves treated. Infact, just visiting the hospital is a big thing for them. As transportaion in the rural areas in not readily available and government facilities are not that developed to cater the needs of the rural people.
Analysing the need and situation, NBJK organises rural Eye Care Screening camps in remote villages on a regular basis and diagnoses patients suffering with Eye diseases. The patients are referred to our Eye Hospital where they are brought in our hospital van, admitted in the hospital and successfully opretaed after pre operation tests. After successful operation they are dropped back to their villages with post medication and guidance for follow-up. The opthalmologists visit the patients for their follow-up in their villages and ensure their vision is back.
Till date, with support from various donors, NBJK successfully operates around 10,000 cataract patients every year. It is still a drop in the ocean. And we are happy to inform that with support of various donors on GlobalGiving platform we have successfully restored vision of 496 cataract blind patients who are extremely grateful to you for your generous support.
Samfulwa, is one such beneficiary. She lives alone as she lost her husband 5 years back and her two sons do not live with her. She survives on her Old Age Pension of Rs.500/ month and lives in dire conditions. She was suffering from cataract since last 1 and half year but did not know whom to approach until she visited our Screening camp organised in her village. Today, she can see clearly and do her household chores herself. She is grateful for the support and says "I never imagined to get my vision back, God bless you people for your noble work".
It gives us immense satisfaction when we hear such feedback and see the happiness on the faces of our beneficiaries. It is a motivating factor for us and we request you to keep supporting us in our endeavours.
With Regards
Shweta Sinha
