80 Students Receive Solar-Powered Lanterns

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your generous support and for believing in the work of Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research Ltd/Gte. Your kindness continues to bring hope to communities where access to basic services remains a daily challenge. Because of your support, we recently completed the distribution of 80 solar-powered lanterns to students of Government Secondary School (GSS) Karshi, a community on the outskirts of Abuja.

For the past four years, the school and its student hostel have had no electricity. Once the sun sets, classrooms and hostel rooms become dark, making it difficult for students to read, complete assignments, or prepare for examinations. Many students have been forced to rely on candles, kerosene lamps, or simply stop studying at night because they have no reliable source of light. This has affected their learning and limited the time they can devote to their education.

The distribution day was filled with excitement and gratitude. As each student received a solar-powered lantern, smiles spread across their faces. Many immediately switched on their lanterns and proudly held them up. Teachers, school administrators, and hostel staff also expressed their appreciation, noting that the lanterns would make a real difference in the lives of the students. They shared how the lack of electricity has remained a major challenge for years and thanked our donors for remembering their school.

These lanterns will allow students to study safely after dark without worrying about the cost of fuel or batteries. They also reduce exposure to the smoke and fire hazards associated with candles and kerosene lamps. For many of these young people, this simple gift means extra hours for reading, homework, and revision each evening.

We know there is still much to be done. Many schools in rural and underserved parts of Nigeria continue to face similar challenges, with students learning under difficult circumstances. We hope to extend this initiative to more schools so that more children can benefit from safe, reliable lighting that supports their education.

Thanks for your support!
