Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank all our donors for their kindness and support toward the Provide Solar Lanterns for Children's Night Study project. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and gives hope to children who continue to struggle with studying at night due to lack of electricity.
On 14 May 2026, approval was officially granted for us to carry out this project. Following this, on 19 May 2026, representatives of Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research visited Government Secondary School, Karshi, Abuja, where the first phase of the project is expected to begin. During the visit, our team met with the Principal and Vice Principal Administration to discuss the planned distribution of solar-powered lanterns to students.
During the meeting, school officials explained that the school, which operates both as a day and boarding school, has been without electricity for the past two years after its transformer became faulty. Despite several efforts, there has been no government intervention to restore power supply.
At present, the classrooms and students’ hostels remain without electricity. The prolonged blackout has also affected access to water because the school cannot pump water without power. Students now face serious difficulty studying at night, and many are unable to read properly after sunset.
The school has given us 25 June 2026 as the proposed date to begin carrying out the first phase of this project. However, while we are grateful for the donations received so far, the available support is still not enough to fully begin implementation, and more help is urgently needed.
This project is designed to provide 1,000 solar lanterns to children living and studying without electricity, helping them read safely indoors at night and reduce dependence on unsafe lighting conditions.
We remain grateful for the support received so far and hopeful that additional donations will help us move forward with the first distribution phase at Government Secondary School, Karshi. In future reports, we hope to share photos and updates from the implementation activities.
Thank you once again for your kindness and continued support.
Sincerely,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
