One of the main problems our school girls face in rural Tanzania is sanitation poverty. Pads are too expensive to buy on a monthly basis, causing absenteeism where girls stay at home rather than attending school when menstruating. Also, many schools in rural Tanzania areas have insufficient latrines, which are often poorly designed and maintained. For girls who are menstruating, these problems compound the difficulties posed by the inability to afford sanitary pads as well as cultural taboos around menstruation. As a result, many girls miss on average four days of school every month, over a month in a year.
In tackling some of these problems, AID Tanzania continues to provide reusable sanitary pads which are more compelling to the girls because it is hygienically approved, affordable, high-quality, and reusable.
We were able to provide 25 girls with additional reusable sanitary pads through donations on this platform. The organization continues to provide counseling activities for these girls, their teachers, and their parents.
We are grateful to our partners and friends who donated their hard-earned cash towards this project through this platform. Together, we're keeping girls in school in rural Tanzania.
