Girls get Menstrual Health and Hygiene Information

As part of the project's objective to increase the number of adolescents and young people who have access to accurate sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information, are able to make informed decisions as it concerns their sexual and reproductive health and  also to create awareness on the availability of the MyQuestion service, we went all out, seized the opportunity of the on-going 16days of activism  to create awareness for the service and to educate adolescents on their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

We thought of an interesting and interactive way to reach out to adolecent girls and young women, so an awareness creation tour for girls was planned and carried out. The objectives of the tour was to provide information and services on HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, teeanage pregnancy, menstrual hygiene, legal and psychosocial support to young women and girls aged 15-24 ( in-school and out-of-school), to create awareness on sexual violence against women and girls and to spark a national discourse through a silent protest. The tour started  from the nation's capital Abuja through Nassarawa state and then to Benue state. The tour had different holding spots in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) and in the states, where SRH services, HIV counseling and testing and psychosocial counseling were provided to adolescent girls and young women. The girls also received incentives such as sanitary pads and purses. The silent  protest saw women and girls march through the streets of the FCT to the office of the minister for women affairs to deliver a letter to ask that the VAPP bill should be domesticated and implemented in all states and also some survivors of violence told their story of how they were violated.

MyQuestion Service team actively participated in all of these activities and were in all the states and the FCT providing sexual and reproductive health information and counseling to the girls and young women, distributing information, education and communication materials and providing referrals to the girls and women where they can access SRH services. The boys and young men were not left out in our activities because we believe that boys and young men have a role to play in supporting women and girls to end violence against women and girls. They joined in the tour and in the march indicating their support for young women and girls.

And so these were the outcomes

  • 5% increase in the number of adolescents and young people who know and have used the MyQuestion service.
  • 3% increase in the number of  adolescent girls aged 10-19  who accessed sexual and reproductive health information through the MyQuestion service.
  • Over 2000  in-school and out-of school adolescents and young people were reached, educated and counselled on sexual and reproductive health concerns.

We did not achieve all of these outcomes alone we worked  with other organizations and partners who share similar objectives.

Our partners include all of you who have made this possible through your kind donations.

We are glad you did.

Thank you.
