Education as a Vaccine (EVA) engaged in two impactful initiatives aimed at advancing youth sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) through technology and capacity building. The first was participation in the Arewa Tech Fest (September 25–26, 2024), a major event in Northern Nigeria featuring political, financial, and traditional leaders. EVA showcased its digital platforms—MyQ, Diva, and Frisky—through a dynamic booth that engaged over 229 participants. Attendees, particularly young people, received hands-on demonstrations, downloaded the apps, and engaged in SRHR discussions. The fest enhanced app visibility, with 217 new user interactions on MyQ, 51 Frisky downloads, and 17 Diva downloads. It also spurred potential partnerships, including a proposal to translate apps into Hausa for wider accessibility.
The second initiative was a three-day training (March 19–21, 2025) for 20 adolescent and young women from five communities. The training equipped participants with knowledge on SRHR, including HIV/STI awareness, and digital advocacy skills using tools like Canva and CapCut. Participants developed CSE content, learned social media strategies for advocacy and business promotion, and dispelled misconceptions around CSE. A post-training stipend was introduced to support continued online advocacy efforts.
Challenges included language barriers, app store access issues, and initial venue setbacks. However, successes included empowering young women, addressing SRHR misinformation, and fostering peer-led CSE promotion. A standout moment was a participant from Jigawa who pledged to promote Frisky at her university due to its accessible and non-judgmental content.
Together, these initiatives reflect EVA’s commitment to using digital innovation and community empowerment to improve SRHR knowledge and outcomes among Nigerian youth. The integrated approach demonstrates EVA’s leadership in advancing youth well-being through technology and advocacy.
