In commemoration of World Contraceptive Day, September 26th, 2024, we held a community outreach in Abuja. The event focused on empowering young women by providing essential sexual and reproductive health (SRHR) education and contraceptive information. With an innovative approach that combined physical activities, health talks, and technological solutions, the event made a lasting impact on the participants and the wider community.
One of the key achievements was the introduction of our MYQ platforms to ensure ongoing access to SRHR resources. Participants were introduced to FriskybyEVA, DIVABYEVA and our USSD platforms that provide contraceptive information, menstrual cycle tracking, and anonymous Q&A services with healthcare providers. Many young women also joined our YOUTHPULSE WhatsApp support group chat, giving them a safe space to seek advice and stay connected with healthcare professionals and peers. These solutions address common challenges such as stigma and distance, making reproductive health services more accessible beyond the event.
The event featured open discussions with healthcare professionals and peer educators, who debunked common myths surrounding contraceptives. Many participants voiced their fears and misconceptions, and these concerns were directly addressed in an interactive Q&A session. The activity was also supported by the community health care workers who provided on-the-spot counseling services for the participants to kick start easy access to services.
To promote overall well-being, the outreach also included an fun activities, which energized participants and underscored the importance of both physical and reproductive health. This activity fostered a sense of community and made the event enjoyable, helping to break down barriers to open conversations about SRHR.
The outreach had a significant impact, with over 100 young women subscribing to digital health platforms for ongoing support. Many left the event with increased confidence in accessing family planning services, both online and at local clinics.
In conclusion, this outreach was a transformative experience for the young women of Sabon Garri. It not only empowered them with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions but also introduced them to tech-based solutions
for continuous support. The event represents a key step toward creating a culture of reproductive autonomy, where young women feel informed, connected, and supported in their health journeys.
