Embracing the Season of Love through Digital Solutions

By Faithful Oluseyi-Fabiyi | Program Officer

Every February, a wave of joy and love sweeps through our lives. While celebrations abound, it's essential to remember that love begins within ourselves, laying the foundation for how we love and care for others. This quarter, we embraced the challenge of using digital solutions to convey the message of self-love to students at one of our Junior Secondary Schools
Recognizing the significance of self-care, we aimed to empower students to love and protect themselves, having a positive attitude toward their bodies and equipping them with accurate age appropriate information. Adolescents often struggle with self-love amidst the physical changes their bodies undergo, leading to discomfort and insecurity. The school sensitization initiative provided a platform to remind them of the beauty, uniqueness, and perfection of their bodies.
During the digital sensitization session, we delivered comprehensive sexuality education, specifically addressing body changes. Our focus was to empower both girls and boys with accurate information. Additionally, we introduced them to the "My Question" service, allowing them to seek guidance from professional counselors, this provides them with a reliable platform for open discussions, addressing concerns, and offering further assistance.
The outreach successfully reached 524 students, providing life-changing information about their bodies, health, and relationships. Open discussions facilitated a deeper understanding of the challenges they face, and we encouraged them to approach these issues with self-love, armed with accurate information
The students expressed profound appreciation for the unique perspective on the importance of self-care. Their feedback highlighted their understanding of the knowledge shared and their eagerness to apply it to enhance their overall well-being

Feedback from the students:
“Thank you for coming to our school, we learnt a lot”
“I learnt that I need to love my body”
“I learnt to always take care of my body because it is perfect the way it is”
“Because of all what you said, I will start protecting my body by not staying silent when I don’t like what anyone does to me”
“I learnt to always speak up”

These responses demonstrated a clear understanding of the message conveyed. Students also posed questions about irregular periods and body changes, to which our team provided comprehensive answers. We encouraged them to utilize the "My Question" service for ongoing support, ensuring they have a reliable resource for accurate information related to adolescence, body changes, and puberty.
In the digital age, embracing the season of love involves leveraging technology to empower and educate, fostering a culture of self-love and well-being among the younger generation.
