RASA CHETAS™ – FROM LEARNING TO LIFEQUARTERLY GRANT REPORT

Reporting Period: July–September 2026

PART I – LIFE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT1. Overview

During July–September 2026, RASA continued its Life Skills Development programme across its various outreach centres, using RASA CHETAS™ – Consciousness through Holistic Education via Theatre Arts Sadhana, previously documented as Theatre Arts for Holistic Development (TAHD).

The programme integrated drama, movement, dance, music, storytelling, art and craft, role-play and experiential learning to develop functional life skills, communication, confidence, creativity and social participation among learners with differing abilities.

2. Key Learning Areas and OutcomesLanguage and Communication

Storytelling, drama, role-play and music were used to develop listening, comprehension, expression and communication. Learners demonstrated encouraging progress in attention, recall, participation and expressive confidence.

General Awareness and Personal Safety

Activities addressed personal boundaries, safe and unsafe situations, trusted adults, appropriate social behaviour and safe communication. Learners developed awareness of personal safety, privacy and appropriate responses.

Environmental Studies and Everyday Life Skills

Experiential activities focused on hygiene, self-care, personal and shared spaces, cleanliness, public behaviour and environmental awareness. Learners developed a better understanding of everyday responsibilities and routines.

Applied Mathematics

Functional learning covered currency recognition, money concepts, shopping situations, time, counting and simple calculations. Learners showed progress in understanding and applying these concepts, with continued practice required for more complex tasks.

Emotional Awareness

Drama, facial expressions and storytelling helped learners recognise and express emotions, supporting emotional communication and participation.

Movement, Music and Physical Coordination

Movement, dance, rhythm, yoga and action songs supported coordination, balance, body awareness, attention, instruction-following and group participation.

Art, Craft and Vocational Skills

Creative activities and jewellery-making supported fine motor coordination, concentration, pattern recognition, sequencing, creativity and the development of functional work skills.

3. Integrated Learning Through Theatre Arts

Across its outreach centres, RASA integrated arts-based methods with functional and academic learning. Drama and role-play supported communication and personal safety; storytelling reinforced language and comprehension; music and movement encouraged attention and coordination; and art, craft and vocational activities developed creativity and practical skills.

This integrated approach provided learners with opportunities to explore concepts actively, practise skills and participate according to their individual abilities.

4. Overall Outcomes

During the reporting period, the programme continued to support:

  • Improved communication, listening and expressive participation.
  • Greater awareness of personal safety and social behaviour.
  • Progress in functional academics and everyday life skills.
  • Development of coordination, rhythm and body awareness.
  • Increased creativity, confidence and group participation.
  • Growth in fine motor skills, vocational readiness and independence.

RASA’s continued use of experiential, arts-based learning provided an engaging framework for holistic development. Repetition, individual support and opportunities to practise skills in real-life situations remain important for consolidating progress and strengthening independence.

PART II – EVENTS, PERFORMANCE & INCLUSIVE PARTICIPATION1. Overview

During July–September 2026, RASA provided learners with opportunities to participate in cultural programmes, public performances, collaborative events and educational visits across its outreach initiatives. These experiences complemented regular learning by enabling students to apply their skills in real-world settings, express themselves creatively and participate in wider cultural and community spaces.

2. Key Events and Activities2.1 RASA ARPITA 40 – 5 July 2026

The Greatness of Margazhi – “Margazhi Endral Enna?”

As part of the RASA ARPITA 40 celebrations, students presented a special programme exploring the greatness and significance of Margazhi through “Margazhi Endral Enna?”

Every aspect of Margazhi was beautifully portrayed by the students, bringing alive the season’s richness through an engaging presentation. The programme provided a platform for students to express their understanding of cultural traditions through the arts.

2.2 Planetarium Visit – 20 July 2026

Students visited a planetarium to explore concepts related to planets and the Solar System. The experience was reinforced through a Solar System song and activity, connecting experiential learning with music and creative participation.

2.3 Performances Alongside Mainstream Artistes – 31 July and 2 August 2026

RASA’s students with differing abilities performed alongside mainstream performers and artistes on a prestigious cultural platform. Entrusted with significant characters, the students participated meaningfully in the production and received appreciation for their contributions.

2.4 Independence Day Celebrations – August 2026

Students actively participated in a mass drill and role-play presentation, portraying freedom fighters and national leaders. They spoke briefly about the personalities they represented and performed dances to compositions of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati.

The programme combined movement, role-play, speech and music, encouraging patriotic expression, memory, communication, coordination and group participation.

2.5 Kala Arpanam – Fifth Anniversary Celebration

RASA students presented two items as part of a programme associated with the fifth anniversary celebration of Kala Arpanam, featuring V. M. Bharath and Guru Shankar.

Both presentations were well received. The event gave students an opportunity to demonstrate their performance skills and participate in a wider cultural programme alongside other artistes.

2.6 Chennai Has Got Talent – 21 August 2026

RASA students were invited as guest performers for the Annual Day of Sai Samarpan Vocational Training Trust. In addition to the performance, RASA supported the preparation of a presentation using props and other performance elements.

This collaboration created an arts-based learning experience for the participating students and teachers, demonstrating how theatre arts can encourage creative expression, participation and confidence.

3. Overall Outcomes
