Donors & Friends,
Thank you for remaining steadfast with us on this journey to bring hope & opportunity to children and young adults in Haiti. Your generosity has made it possible to address critical healthcare, educational, and personal challenges faced by these young Haitians. Today, we are highlighting an example of the impact you’ve had on the lives of four boys.
Meet the Children
Over one year ago, the Foundation staff identified four children at Saint Dominiques Orphanage that were falling behind at school and were unable to read or write at their grade level. The schools raised concerns about how it was affecting their learning, self-confidence, and motivation to continue their studies.
Thanks to your support, SHH was able to fund two qualified teachers who worked with the children daily. Through personalized lessons, patient supervision, and consistent encouragement, the children began to make significant progress. Today, all four can read and write. This achievement not only strengthens their academic performance but also restores their confidence and inspires them to pursue their dreams. They are starting to perform above grade-level expectations and will return to regular classrooms next year.
Mathurin
Mathurin has been a part of the St. Dominiques family for the past 12 years. He loves watching movies and television, where the stories spark his imagination and help him dream about what his own future could become. Reading had long been one of his greatest challenges, but through daily one-on-one tutoring, patient encouragement, and countless hours of practice, he has made tremendous progress over the past year. Today, Mathurin can read and write with growing confidence and is excited to continue building on those skills.
He hopes to become a plumber one day, learning a practical trade that will allow him to build an independent future.
Angelot
Angelot has called St. Dominiques home for the past 16 years. Football is his greatest passion. Whether he's playing with friends or cheering on his favorite teams, the sport gives him confidence, joy, and a sense of belonging. In the classroom, retaining lessons has always been more difficult. Thanks to the individualized support provided through this program, he is steadily improving his ability to learn, remember, and succeed in school. His teachers have seen meaningful growth in both his academic performance and confidence.
Angelot dreams of becoming a photographer, capturing moments and telling stories through the lens of a camera.
Adleyson
Adleyson has lived at St. Dominiques for the past 16 years. He loves football and enjoys spending time with others. Like several of the boys in this program, he struggled to retain lessons in school and often found it difficult to keep pace with his classmates. Over the past year, personalized instruction and consistent encouragement have helped him make remarkable progress. He approaches each day with determination and continues to grow in both his academic abilities and self-confidence.
He hopes to become an entrepreneur, building something of his own and creating opportunities for others in his community.
Angelo
For the past 16 years, St. Dominiques has been Angelo's home. He has always enjoyed taking things apart and figuring out how they work. Whether repairing radios or small household appliances, he has a natural curiosity and talent for solving problems. Reading was the biggest obstacle standing between him and achieving his goals, but with dedicated tutoring, he has made significant progress and is becoming a more confident student. His growing literacy skills are opening doors that once seemed out of reach.
Angelo dreams of becoming an automobile mechanic, combining his passion for repairing things with a career that can provide for his future.
