As we reach the half-way mark in 2024, we say a big thank you to all our volunteers, well-wishers and donors whose participatory giving helped the organization to provide the children with a range of creative opportunities outside the preschool syllabus. It is the fun part which encourages children to attend school, and one which inspires them not to drop out of early childhood learning.
From an art workshop to play-based learning, from interactive English language classes to dance and song the first six months was packed with fun and joy. Collaborating with the staff and providing them with new strategies we are grateful to our visiting early childhood specialist whose valuable contribution working with the children helped identify their special needs to enhance early childhood development.
One of the greatest needs among Sri Lankas children is to be able to speak in English. With more and more teachers migrating overseas, providing an English language class for vulnerable kids is a rare opportunity. We are fortunate to provide this opening, helping to break the unescapable cycles of poverty and vulnerability for our children.
Hurling across Sri Lanka in a tuk-tuk was fun for 60 teams in the Rickshaw Run Sri Lanka initiative of which one team having browsed the web, selected The Sunshine Preschool to visit. Conducting an amazing programme they danced, sang and played with the children, facilitating them to foster their creative development.
