We are so very pleased to inform you that Aleksandra and her three young children (10, 8 and 3) have successfully finalized the purchase of and have moved into their own home. It is with help of your financial assistance and support that Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation was able to make this a reality for Aleksandra and her family.
This project was supported by 91 donor.
When we first began working with Aleksandra, she was living in an extremely vulnerable situation and moving from house to house in order to avoid abusive partners, a father with problems with alcohol, and a predator landlord. But she can now feel happy and safe in her own home.
Aleksandra's initial lack of confidence and undeveloped job skills has changed over the last 6 months, thanks to the mentoring and support Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation has provided through its Single Parent Support Program that you and others have given so generously towards. She is much more optimistic, full with energy and ready to move forward in life.
In the attached pictures you can see that her new home has its own small orchard and garden as well as a separate outbuilding for animals. Her kids still cannot believe that they have their own place to call home. They can now make neighborhood friends, go to the same school each year, and have the security that no one will come and evict them from where they live.
Starting next month, Aleksandra will participate in the our economic empowerment module for single parents, with the goal of learning financial literacy and job skills that result in her financial self-sustainability within one year.
Please read the attached note from Aleksandra's 10-year-old daughter. She wrote it in Serbian, but we have translated it into English with the hope that we still kept the spirit of the note. She expresses her gratefulness in such a sweet way. And it can be plainly seen that she feels that your assistance and support has changed their lives forever.
