Compassion in Action: Feeding Elderly Homeless Women in Lugbe
During this quarter, our team carried out another impactful outreach as part of our ongoing mission to feed the most vulnerable and neglected individuals in our community. We focused specifically on elderly homeless women beggars in the Lugbe community of Abuja (AMAC) a group that faces extreme hunger, isolation, and abandonment.
These women live on the streets or under makeshift shelters, often going days without food or medical care. Many of them are widowed, physically weak, and rely on begging for survival.
What We Did
This quarter, we prepared and distributed hot meals of jollof rice and beef to over 60 elderly homeless women in the Lugbe area. Each meal was freshly cooked and served with love and respect.
Our volunteers engaged directly with the women, offering not just food but companionship, conversation, and dignity. Many shared their stories, some broke down in tears, and others expressed overwhelming joy and gratitude.
Impact at a Glance
• 60+ elderly women served with hot nutritious meals
• 10 volunteers mobilized for preparation, serving, and clean-up
• Strengthened community awareness about elder hunger and homelessness
• Reached a group that is often forgotten and excluded from aid programs
One of the beneficiaries, Mama Zainab (72), said:
“I have not eaten in two days. I begged on the road and got nothing. This food today… I will sleep with peace in my heart.”
Challenges Faced
•Limited funding restricted us from feeding more individuals who showed up
•Rising costs of food and transportation affected the scale of the outreach
•Many women had visible signs of illness and malnutrition that require ongoing support
Despite these challenges, the outreach was a powerful reminder of why this project exists to restore dignity, reduce suffering, and remind the forgotten that they matter.
Looking Ahead
In the coming quarter, we aim to:
•Expand our outreach to include more homeless and elderly individuals, less priviledged pregnant women, nursing mothers, poor elderly women especially those pin nearby AMAC communities
•Provide more food items in the coming{CHRISTMAS FOR OUR 2025 DECEMBER TO REMEMBER PROGRAM} which we always do every 23rd of every December
•Partner with local markets and food suppliers to reduce costs and increase meal output
•Launch a weekly or monthly feeding schedule like a food challenge or food game as a way of feeding the hungry and also ensuring consistent support for the most vulnerable
Gratitude to Our Donors
To all our GlobalGiving supporters: thank you. Your donations have made a real, immediate impact on the lives of some of the most neglected individuals in our community. Every contribution helps us reach one more person who would otherwise go hungry.
We humbly ask for your continued support as we expand this mission. Together, we are not just feeding stomach, we are feeding hope.
With heartfelt gratitude,
