Project Report | May 31, 2017
Food For Thought

By Jason Heselgrave | Fundraising Manager

Hello from all at DAKTARI,

We’re trying a whole new approach to fundraising!
On GlobalGiving we’re adding new projects on our donation page for specific individual animals for better exposure.

A couple of animals have been added to the fold, a bush pig called Molly who’s a friendly, inquisitive girl with a bubbly attitude has been trotting around the camp. We’ve also got 2 new Meerkats that are making friends and getting a sun tan!

DAKTARI has installed a new safety cage for our Owls and the wildlife manager Willington has been experimenting with the Meerkat enclosures, previously we had a specific type of soil that we would use, the Meerkats would sometimes tunnel down and through into other enclosures, Willington has spent 2 weeks removing the soil and using a new type of dirt that fills in on itself when you disturb it, this gives the Meerkats plenty of exercise but leaves us stress free.

Two future projects? Ok!

  • We’re potentially receiving a Lion! DAKTARI is currently trying to help a local rehabilitation centre, currently we’re securing a quotation for a new predatory enclosure to house him.
  • The Jackals have been moved to a separate area for inevitable release outside of camp to get them used to limited human contact.
