Namaste and a Happy New Year!
We're re-building!
The Bungamati community has been very busy repairing and re-building. Some new classrooms have been built and a new home for the children is under construction!
Even under the extremely difficult circumstances in Nepal Global Family Village was able to help thousands of children. With your help and generous support Global Family Village-Nepal (GFV-N) printed and distributed 70,400 children's "healing" , coloring books, Shyam & Gita- The Day the Earth Shook (see link below) to 28 local organizations that were involved in the earthquake relief. The book has reached children in 12 of the 14 affected districts–in displaced persons camps, child safe places, temporary learning centers and a few existing schools. We are working closely with the government, and the Central Child Welfare Board. The book has been used by counseling groups and counselors working with the psychological aftermath of the earthquake. Our country director, Professor Kishor Shrestha, has provided training to over 40 school teachers from Kathmandu valley, on the use of the book. So far we have received very positive feedback from everyone who used the book, and especially from children who simply loved it!
GFV-N brought professionals to train teachers in our Bungamati programs, improving the development of the whole school and the community children. We have seen continued progress in the relationship between the children at the Family House and their local community and their Grandparents.
GFV-N partnered with two local organizations to continue helping the victims of the quake. Together we provided free medical support, food and shelter through our Disaster Support for Families in Nepal project. We will continue this as long as there is a need.
We have many hopes and plans for the coming year. We plan to continue printing and distributing more books and guiding the teachers and parents.... We would like to help support the Bungamati community to finish the new house and move the children into their first real home.... And we would like to replicate our model of community-based, sustainable family care to other communities in Nepal.
We are so grateful that you have helped make a difference in so many children's lives. Together, we are succeeding!
Please, please continue your support!
