The yearend approaches with a great opportunity to THANK YOU and our volunteers for supporting Global Family Village in Nepal. Your support has made a great difference to the orphaned children, the preschool and the families of the community of Bungamati, Nepal. Your funding is also making a huge impact as we empower the entire village and orphanage to become self-sufficient, with hope for tomorrow! YOU have made this possible!

But we are not there yet; we still have a way to go. We are helping to empower the community with income-generation activities and funding to support the orphanage and preschool, so that they can be totally self-sustaining within 5-7 years. We are almost halfway there!

September 2013 Update - New GFV Video Release!

New GFV Video Release!!!

Video Social Documentary Photographer, Karen Ande visited Nepal in February of this year and spent two weeks in Bungamati photographing our project, and the children! She created a great short video that shows the GFV program in action! Watch the video here or at our website. Check out Karen's photography at www.andephotos.com.

Recently, our caregiver “Mothers” received training on child growth and development. Women from the community also participated in the training to further their own parenting skills. Other news from the community includes the expansion of our Home-Stay program for income generation, and continued plans to initiate additional income generation projects, which will help support the Family House and ECD center. And the elders of the community are continuing to support our program and their special connections with the children (see photo)

The Bungamati Family House has 2 new volunteers, Ms. Thi-Lan Johnson from Albany, CA (see photo) will be joined this week by Jessica Smith from Australia. Thi-Lan brings with her experience in living abroad, working with children, and a rich background in art and music. We are excited to have them both. Everybody benefits in a rich exchange of cultural and knowledge. (We are currently expanding our volunteer program and welcome volunteer and intern inquiries.)

Back in the U.S., interest in Global Family Village has been growing. Our Executive Director, Ms. Freema Davis resides in Berkeley, CA when not in Nepal. She has been facilitating outreach events in the Bay Area to gain support of the project. She has generated many new supporters and recruited two interns, Ms. Sunita Stablein, Master of Social Work student at Humboldt State University, and Ms. Jasmine Frye, Master Social Work student at the University of California Berkeley.

Your support is very necessary and appreciated. Your donations helps us to help the community so that the project will be self-sustaining within 5 years!

Global Family Village - June 2013 Update

Greetings from Bungamati Village, Nepal where Global Family Village children and community-based project are thriving, thanks to your support!

We are very excited to share with you our latest news of the launching of the Bungamati Home-Stay program in partnership with the Cooperative Society of Bungamati! Local farmer-women were trained to open up their Newari homes for tourists seeking an authentic stay in an ancient Nepali village home. This project provides income for the community, as well as helping to support the children’s home as ten percent of the overnight fees go to support their Bungamati Family Home for orphans and disenfranchised children!

So far 10 women have graduated from the Hospitality program and now have their homes available for tourists! They have hosted the first round of guests, who raved about the experience: staying in a Newari village, connecting with the community, visiting the school and family home; seeing first hand where their contributions were going from their homestay fees. This marks a significant step towards sustainability!

Now, our newest projects in development include partnering with the community to develop a café and an art gallery to showcase the local woodworking artisans. Stay tuned for developments in this latest community endeavor.

Our existing family of seven children and two “mothers” are doing well. We are continuing to strengthen the children’s sense of family by partnering them with elders in the community who will be their “grandparents”; this also strengthens the community and enriches the lives of the elders. We are continuing our work with the children proving them education, family, health care, and nutrition.

We need your support to continue our work and to replicate our innovative model of orphan care in other regions in Nepal. There are thousands of orphaned and abandoned children who need your help in bringing Global Family village to their community, giving orphans a family, home, education and community. Please donate!
