Social Unrest In KwaZulu-Natal And Gauteng -
In the middle of 2021 senseless unrest erupted in both KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The result was a period of unprecedented levels of turmoil and the destruction of both public and private property. Infrastructure worth billions of Rand was destroyed, food shortages became rife and many thousands of previously gainfully employed people were left without jobs.
Gift of the Givers swung into action immediately, its response comprising the implementation of an extensive food parcel, hygiene packs and baby supplies distribution programme, geared to assist communities in both KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng left without access to basic food and supplies.
The organisation also played a key role in the aftermath, actively assisting in the reconstruction of a number of businesses damaged as a consequence of the heinous acts of violence and wanton destruction. Business support was extended to, particularly, SMMEs and family-owned businesses, with the organisation's R5,7 million outreach efforts positively affecting more than 60 enterprises.
