Accidents can occur without any form of notice. How we respond to it determines life or death. CriticaLink has been trying to build trained volunteer groups to respond to emergency situations which require immediate first aid response. Such trained personnel can increase the chances of avoiding fatality or major disabilities.
According to a Dhaka Tribune article there were 3,608 fatalities from road accidents in the first ten months of 2017. Apart from fatalities close to 8,000 people were injured from road accidents in that same time frame. Even in 2018 till this very day as I write this report, the newspapers have at least one article on fatal road accident every other week. And still it is believed that these number are well under-reported.
CriticaLink has been working on creating awareness and training responders to respond during emergencies so that life can be saved. This challenging work has gifted us with the satisfaction of being a contributor to the health system of developing countries like Bangladesh.
Adding New Responders Through Training at CriticaLink :
CriticaLink knows the need of creating volunteers who are capable of responding to any emergency nearby. Our team has added over 120 volunteers through the training at our Dhaka center during the last 5 months. Each volunteer undergoes a very thorough training that includes 8 hours of classwork, a 2-hour practical review, and both a written and practical exam to earn their qualification. The team has responded to around 250 accident cases during this time. Even when they are at home they have been able to help neighbors’ needing immediate attention.
Motivating and ensuring safety of women :
CriticaLink puts a lot of value in the ability of our First Responders to react quickly and respond appropriately during an emergency, any time, day or night. However, we also believe in the importance of personal safety and always emphasize the safety of our volunteers come first. Since 2017, CriticaLink has continually held self-defense sessions self-defense. As a female-founded organization who values and encourages the participation of women at all levels of the organization, we began arranging self-defense workshops for our female volunteers every few months. In March 2018, CriticaLink again arranged a Self-defense Workshop for women to make sure that they are active and safe on the road. This Self-Defense Workshop was led by Daif Salemoon sensei of Gulshan Karate Dojo. This Event was collaborated by CriticaLink and Gulshan Karate Dojo! This program has got immense response from the working class women who needs to travel alone late at nights.
Participation and Global appreciation of CriticaLink :
Our Co-founder & Program Director Rahat Hossain went to Vienna to attend the WSA Global Congress Vienna 2018 as a Judge from Bangladesh.
The WSA Global congress is an international conference and workshop format to present and promote the 40 international WSA winners and discuss in an interactive process how ICTs and digital innovation can have a positive impact on society and present global Best-Practice examples.
APRIL 2018
Our Co-Founder & Program Director Rahat Hossain and our core volunteer Khadiza Ahsan is attended The Commonwealth Youth Forum 2018. Rahat Hossain participated as one of the representative of the Queen's Young Leader where he met Her Majesty ,The Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham Palace. On the other hand Khadiza Ahsan attended the CYF2018 as a Delegate of CriticaLink.
The Commonwealth Youth Forum provides an opportunity for the young people of the Commonwealth to build cross-cultural connections and networks, debate the challenges facing its young people, and agree youth-led initiatives to influence decision makers and ensure young people have a voice in its future.
The 2018 Youth Forum’s theme of “Powering Our Common Future” reflects the CHOGM theme of “Towards a Common Future” and illustrates the powerful potential of young people across the Commonwealth in devising solutions to complex global challenges as well as their ability to bring forward meaningful recommendations to the Heads of Government meeting.
