Don Bosco Veedu Society is committed in rescuing and rehabilitating at risk and orphaned children from around the country. One of the major and long standing projects has been the Don Bosco Nivas Shelter Home, a temporary shelter facility to provide a safe and comfortable short stay for children in need of care and protection. Likewise we hve various shelter homes across the state of kerala on various districts. Every centres are registered under Juvenile Justice Act 2000 with facilities to accommodate children. These children come from different backgrounds such as orphaned, run away, single parent, children in conflict with law, child in need of care and protection etc.
Some of the basic necessities that a rescued child needs are a set of dress, toiletries and footwear. Children usually receive ‘hand me down’ clothes and on special occasions such as birthdays and festivities, children long to receive a new set of clothes, toiletries & footwear. Many a times, the donated clothes were either not their size, torn or very old. That is why we have decided to not only get new clothes but we also got a new pair of footwear, new toothbrushes, toothpaste, toungue cleaner, soap and shampoo for all of them using the funds which we raised through GlobalGiving donors.
Since during the time period we received a huge amount for providing necessary clothings and toiletries for our children, we managed to mobilise fund towards other branches of our organisation which were focused on rescuing and rehabilitation of street children across the state of Kerala. We have branches over Ernakulam, Kollam and Calicut which work for the rescue of street children. We managed to stock up sufficient new dresses from textiles and footwears for the children which was later distributed to around 1000 street children who were rescued and given shelter at various organisations of Don Bosco Veedu Society.
We cannot express in words the happiness we could witness on their faces once they received new clothes and shoes.Don Bosco Veedu Society is thankful to each and every donor from GlobalGiving for your gracious support which allows us to cater to the basic needs of children. We expect such continuous support from the generous donors so that the children will be able to receive new clothes and belongings frequently.
