The war in Ukraine is still ongoing. The reality is accompanied by the threat of bombing, and children and teachers across the country are forced to spend several hours in bomb shelters almost every day. In such circumstances, teachers face challenges to support students in times of stress and continue the learning process (if possible). That is why we see a great need to provide schools with "Chest for Shelter".
Thanks to your donations in December 2023 on the GlobalGiving platform, we delivered 1 "hest" to a school #3 in Konotop which is located 100 kilometers from the frontline. The school has 608 children aged 6-17.
Therefore, they have very frequent air alarms. Children spend a lot of time in shelters, so the "Chest for Shelter" is really useful for this school.
This "chest" contained 35 blankets, two LED lights, various board games, various stationery (colored paper, felt-tip pens, colored pens, scissors, glue, drawing pads, wax crayons) and coloring books.
School 3 and all the children, express their gratitude for the opportunity to receive such necessary materials for them. This will allow children to overcome stress, fears, depression, panic attacks, improve their learning process, continue to develop in the realities of today and spend time in a shelter with comfort close to the usual learning environment.
Each item in the chest has a special meaning; they were selected by psychologist Svitlana Roiz and the team of the NGO Smart Osvita after analyzing the stress management strategies most often used by children. The objects are combined in such a way that they give a sense of security at all levels: visual, auditory, tactile.
In addition, many things are not only valuable for psychological comfort, but also for physical comfort - they are warm and light.
The "Chest for Shelter" is a chest designed to make children and teachers stay in safe places more comfortable, restore their resources, and help them spend their "disturbing" time in an interesting and useful way.
This is the 17th "Chest" we have delivered. Each of the "chests" are designed for more than 100 children to stay in the shelter at a time.
Thank you for making this possible.
With love and gratitude - NGO Smart Osvita.
