Construction has started on the new medical areas in the Chisec Centro de Salud (medical clinic). New bathrooms are required for the doctors, staff, and patients. New plumbing lines were necessary, so the team cut through the concrete floor to add new drain pipes and water supply, then replaced the concrete over the piping. The plumbing rough-in work is complete. In early June, a team from the US came and painted the walls of some of the interior rooms (autoclave room, supply room, hallways. The key next steps are a) replacement of the windows, b) resurfacing the floors, and c) adding lights, etc..
We are still short of our goal to complete the project. Any donations would be appreciated so we can complete the work and have the facility's government designation changed from "clinic" to "hospital" and justify a full-time doctor. This will prevent the need for as many at-home births (on dirt floors) and sending emergency cases to hospitals 2 hours away from Chisec.
Thank you!
