Cheese, Gouda to be more precise, is a very important part of life at the Lewa Children’s Home. Not that it is present in the children’s diet – they prefer their milk in a liquid, fermented form (called mala) – but because it is sold to families and businesses throughout Kenya and even all the way to Uganda!
Thanks to Phyllis' vision over 20 years ago, the Baraka Farm was developed to produce milk, fruits, vegetables, maize, meat and the famous Gouda for the children of Lewa and for sale on the local market. The proceeds from the sales are used to support the orphanage, so that abandoned and orphaned children can find a safe and loving home.
This is a first step towards self-sustainability. With your support, the Lewa Children's Home and the Baraka Farm will continue to change children's lives for many years to come.
Today, the Lewa Children's Home has changed the lives of 648 children. Whether they were abandoned at the hospital shortly after birth or found living in situations unfit for a child, every child who came received Phyllis unconditional love. This is all thanks to you. We hope you will continue to support Lewa so that more children can have a chance at a better life.
