Good, affordable healthcare can be challenging to find in rural Uganda. In Katulikire, the local health center is able to provide many, but not all, services. When patients suffer from diseases that cannot be treated at the Health Center, the ambulance ensures that the patients get to a center where they can be treated.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 99% of pregnancy-related deaths occur in low-and middle-income countries such as Uganda. 6% of maternal deaths are due to pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, which is second to only post-partum hemorrhage as a cause of death.
This mother arrived to Katulikire Health Center in pre-term labor, delivered a premature baby, and then required transfer away from the center for pre-eclampsia. Our goal is to grow and improve Katulikire Health Center so that we can treat these patients without transfer. We know we can provide them with good, affordable health care.
Thank you for supporting the mother's and infants of Katulikire.
