Somalia has endured decades of conflict and displacement. Nearly one-third of the population faces crisis-level hunger, and 1.8 million children under five are at risk of acute malnutrition in 2026. Despite these urgent needs, many IDP camps remain underserved by humanitarian aid. This project will provide clean water, food, hygiene items, and nursing services to vulnerable people, particularly children under five and pregnant and lactating women, helping improve their health and nutrition.
According to UNHCR, about 6.5 million people-nearly one-third of Somalia's population-are facing crisis-level hunger, and more than 1.8 million children under five are projected to suffer from acute malnutrition throughout 2026 (as of March 2026). Among the most vulnerable are young children, pregnant and lactating women, who face severe shortages of food and clean water and remain at constant risk of malnutrition, disease, and death.
Assessments in IDP camps identified urgent needs for clean water, medicines, and nutritional supplements. This project will provide safe water and deploy medical staff with local partners. Children under five and pregnant and lactating women suffering from poor health or malnutrition will receive soap and other essential hygiene items. The project will also provide basic education and vocational training to displaced people and local youth who lack access to education.
Despite recurring famines, Somalia receives limited international attention and funding. Ongoing terrorism and conflict have made humanitarian access even more difficult, leaving many vulnerable people without support. Since 2017, we have continued working in underserved communities across Somalia. Through this project, we will help save lives, strengthen resilience, and support long-term recovery, contributing to a more peaceful and stable future for Somalia.
