Trainings on mangrove ecological restoration were held to support replanting efforts in the Canal Los Monos area, covering topics like ecology, hydrology, and the protective role of mangroves. Over 12 days, 13 volunteers from the community and eight from project partner Asociación Mangle collected an estimated four tons of plastic from beaches and mangroves. Boats were provided to transport both people and waste for recycling.
Five thousand red mangrove propagules were planted in Bocana La Chepona, kicking off the restoration work in December. Project activities were promoted via Radio Mangle’s social media. Meanwhile, school fence repairs were delayed by Tropical Storm Sara, though material quotes are still being gathered. Entrepreneurship activities for participating families will be beginning shortly!
