Ethiopia is home to wildlife found nowhere else in the world. Among these remarkable animals is the Gelada, an endemic Old World monkey that is part of Ethiopia’s unique natural heritage. Protecting the Gelada is not only about saving an animal—it is about protecting the ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural heritage that future generations deserve to inherit. With your generous support, Meseret Humanitarian Organization (MHO) continues its commitment to protecting Ethiopia’s endemic wildlife, endangered mammals, and their natural habitats. The Protecting Ethiopia’s Gelada Species (Old World Monkey) project is designed to contribute to the protection and conservation of the unique Gelada population and the ecosystems on which these animals depend. During this reporting period, the project received US$0.58 in funding. Although this amount was very limited, MHO recognizes that every contribution represents valuable support for wildlife conservation. Because of the small level of funding available, project activities during this period remained limited in scope. Nevertheless, MHO continued to maintain its commitment to the protection of Geladas and their habitat. The organization used the reporting period to sustain attention to the conservation needs of this endemic species and to support continued awareness of the importance of protecting Ethiopia’s unique wildlife. MHO Always believe that Small Support, Meaningful Commitment Although the resources available during this period were very limited, MHO did not lose sight of the purpose of the project. The organization continued to maintain its conservation focus and to advocate for greater attention and support for Ethiopia’s endangered and endemic wildlife. However, MHO believes that conservation does not begin with the size of a donation; it begins with a commitment to protecting life and nature.

Every contribution, no matter how small, is a reminder that these species matter.

Why Continued Support Matters

Wildlife cannot speak for itself when its habitat is threatened. The survival of species such as the Gelada depends on people and organizations choosing to protect them.

Limited funding remains one of the major challenges facing conservation efforts. Without adequate resources, it is difficult to conduct regular field monitoring, strengthen conservation awareness, support communities, and undertake broader habitat-protection activities.

MHO therefore continues to seek additional financial and technical support so that conservation efforts can move beyond maintaining commitment toward achieving stronger and measurable results. With increased support, MHO aims to strengthen conservation awareness, encourage community participation, support protection of wildlife habitats, and improve monitoring and conservation activities for the Gelada and other endangered species.

Challenges

The main challenge during the reporting period was insufficient funding. The US$0.58 received was not enough to implement substantial field-based conservation activities. Limited resources also restrict the organization’s ability to conduct regular monitoring, community awareness activities, habitat protection initiatives, and other conservation interventions.

Way Forward

MHO will continue to mobilize resources and seek partnerships to strengthen the protection of Geladas and their habitats. With increased financial and technical support, the organization aims to expand conservation awareness, strengthen community participation, support habitat protection, and improve monitoring of this important endemic species.

In all, although funding for the project remained extremely limited during this reporting period, MHO remains committed to protecting Ethiopia’s Gelada species and its natural habitat. The contribution of US$0.58 demonstrates that even a small amount of support can help sustain an important conservation commitment.
