Dear Friend,

Hope you are doing well.

With this email, we are sharing with you the updates for the project “Equip forest guard to protect wildlife in India”. Thank you so much for your generous contribution to this project and for believing in our work. We are so glad to have you as a part of our team.

In 2019, more than 11,000 acres of forest land of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka was gutted due to forest fires resulting in a heavy loss to wildlife and its habitat. Following this devastating incident, the Forest Department took several precautionary measures last year, and prevented any wildfire instances in the region. This year again, with the summer season approaching, the department has taken all measures to prevent forest fire instances and have created 2,828 km long fire lines within the Tiger Reserve. In addition, 50-meter-wide fire lines are being created on both sides of the national highway that passes through the reserve. Besides, the department has appointed 445 watchers, on a temporary basis to keep a check on any such incident.

With your support, WTI in the reporting period provided essential equipment and utilities (field gear and cooking utensils) to 60 temporary fire fighters of Kundhere range, in Bandipur Tiger Reserve for their day-to-day sustenance, while they are on a constant vigilance to perform their fire-fighting duties. We also supported other ranges of the Tiger Reserve with first aid kits and fire-dousing equipment.

With the cumulative efforts of the forest department, the fire-watchers and our support; we are hopeful that a major calamity in the face of a forest fire will be averted this year as well. Your contribution here is of great significance and we are very thankful to you for the same.

We will be soon back with similar updates on the project.

Warm regards,

Team WTI
