Connecting Community Experiences

By Priscilla Nyadoi | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

Effective environmental conservation requires action on the ground and informed decisions at institutional and policy levels. Communities experience environmental changes directly, while policies and planning decisions can influence how natural resources are managed across entire landscapes.

Uganda Wildlife Society has been documenting lessons from its conservation work and using these experiences in policy and dialogue forums at district and national levels.

This work contributes to advocacy for sustainable land use and the protection of Lake Victoria's biodiversity and habitat resources.

The Society's community-based activities, including tree planting, environmental education, and sustainable natural resource management, provide practical experiences that can inform discussions about conservation priorities and implementation challenges.

Policy dialogues also create opportunities to encourage cooperation among local communities, government institutions, conservation organizations, and other stakeholders. Such collaboration is important because natural ecosystems and environmental pressures often extend beyond administrative boundaries.

UWS recognizes that policy influence is a long-term process. Documenting lessons, communicating community experiences, and maintaining constructive engagement can help strengthen the evidence and partnerships needed to improve conservation practice.

We thank the communities and partners whose experiences and participation contribute to this work.

By connecting local conservation experiences with wider policy discussions, we are helping strengthen the foundations for sustainable natural resource management in Uganda.

Thank you for supporting evidence-informed conservation and collaboration across communities and institutions.
