Sharing Practical Tree Management Knowledge

By Priscilla Nyadoi | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

Successful tree restoration requires more than distributing seedlings. Communities also need practical knowledge about planting, managing, and protecting trees so that restoration investments can deliver lasting benefits.

Uganda Wildlife Society recognizes the importance of environmental education and knowledge sharing in promoting sustainable natural resource management.

As part of its restoration work around the Lake Victoria shoreline in Mayuge District, the Society developed, printed, and distributed a technical extension manual on tree management to beneficiary communities.

The manual provides a resource for sharing tree-management knowledge and supporting community understanding of how to care for planted seedlings. It also contributes to wider outreach efforts aimed at extending conservation knowledge to other communities and stakeholders in the district and surrounding region.

In addition, three radio talk shows were conducted to communicate the importance of trees and environmental management to a wider audience.

These activities complement practical tree planting by helping people understand why restoration matters and what they can do to support it. Radio outreach can extend conservation messages beyond direct project beneficiaries, while written materials can provide a reference for continued learning.

We are grateful to the American Embassy through the Self-Help Ambassador Support for supporting these efforts.

Knowledge helps turn tree planting into lasting restoration. Together, we are equipping communities with the information they need to protect trees, manage land responsibly, and safeguard natural resources.
