Dear Donor,
Healthy land is essential for productive agriculture, thriving ecosystems, and resilient rural communities. However, unsustainable land-use practices can contribute to soil erosion, declining vegetation cover, and the degradation of habitats that support biodiversity.
Uganda Wildlife Society is working with communities in the Albertine Rift to promote more sustainable approaches to natural resource management, recognizing that healthy landscapes benefit both people and wildlife.
Through farmer training, practical demonstrations, and tree-growing initiatives, the Society encourages households to adopt responsible land-management practices suited to their local conditions. These approaches include integrating trees into farming systems, protecting existing vegetation, managing grazing areas responsibly, and restoring degraded land.
Trees can help stabilize soil, contribute organic matter, provide shade, and improve the structure of farming landscapes. When combined with appropriate agricultural practices, they can help reduce environmental pressures and improve the long-term productivity of land.
Community participation is central to this work. Farmers possess valuable knowledge of their local environment, and their involvement helps ensure that conservation practices are practical, locally appropriate, and more likely to continue.
We appreciate the support of our partners and the commitment of participating communities to improving the way natural resources are managed.
By protecting the land today, we help safeguard biodiversity, agricultural livelihoods, and environmental health for tomorrow.
Thank you for supporting sustainable natural resource management in Uganda
