Sending-off ceremonies
Last summer, 20 girl survivors from our centers were finally reintegrated back to their families and communities. To commemorate this meaningful milestone, we held send-off events. It symbolized the culmination of their journey to healing and recovery within the CAMELEON centers. Through our holistic Rehabilitation program, these young girls are given another hope of having a tomorrow that is full of color. On behalf of the CAMELEON Family, we congratulate all the girls! We are all proud of their bravery and growth. This does not mark the end of CAMELEON’s role in their lives as the girls are now part of the After-Care program. Here, they will continue to receive support for their schooling, medical, legal, and employment needs to ensure that they are set for a stable future.
Arrival of new girls
We are glad to announce you that 7 new girls aged 6 to 17 were welcomed in our 3 centers this summer. They are now part of CAMELEON family and provided with medical care, educational assistance, psycho-social interventions and legal support along with the other girl survivors of sexual abuse. We will soon welcome 18 other girls and protect them towards their journey in our centers and beyond.
The new school year has started
Last September, distance-learning classes started again. This school year, our girls continue to be taught by hired tutors within the safety of the centers. They are grouped according to their academic capacities and age to ensure that they receive appropriate lessons. The girls can continue to study and learn their academic lessons within our safe center as the schools are still closed in the Philippines.
COVID-19 has hit our centers
Despite the sanitary measures that have been taken throughout the year to avoid contamination, to preserve the health of the children and our local team, and the vaccination of the staff against Covid-19, the centers of Passi have unfortunately not escaped the virus. In total, 11 cases have been confirmed last September, and with chance there were only minor cases. The teams have mobilized to stop the contagion, isolating the girls who were tested positive to the virus and proposing them joyful activities to avoid being bored or stressed. Thanks to the positive involvement of CAMELEON girls and staffs, everyone is now healed and safe.
New Parent Effectiveness Seminar
Last July 24, CAMELEON Negros Center held their Parent Effectiveness Seminar. The event ensured that the parents of the girl survivors were able to identify the importance of the family - its functions and how it affects and influences the development of their children’s values and behavior. This is for them to look at it as a key approach to the prevention of child abuse.
Nutrition month
50 girls participated in the Nutrition Month Celebration that was facilitated by the CAMELEON tutors. Various activities were organized such as Food and nutrition quiz bee, no fire cooking, lecture and slogan, and poster making with this year’s theme: “Malnutrisyon patuloy na labanan, first 1000 days tutukan!”. The purpose of Nutrition Month Celebration is to expose the girls to the values of creativity, unity, collaboration, and sportsmanship through various activities revolving around the importance of proper food and nutrition. Health and nutrition are important aspects in the holistic approach used for the recovery program of the girl survivors.
Recreational activities of the past months
In July, in-house girls had a photoshoot as part of their graduation process in school. With the help of the CAMELEON staff, they were able to have their graduation makeup and photo sent to their school adviser.
T-shirt printing skills training was conducted to the girls, facilitated by the housemothers. Among the 15 girls who participated, 2 of them were identified to be trainers and assisted in training their fellow girls. The printed t-shirts will be used by the girls as their uniform during center activities and programs.
The girls of CAMELEON Negros developed skills trainings in sewing. Under the supervision of the trainer, the girls were mentored for the fundamentals of the craft from measuring, cutting, marking, to the use of a sewing machine for stitching. This is done in hopes that this ability will be of great use in the future for the girls, whether it is for their personal or professional endeavors.
Sports
The girls continue to practice sports as a therapeutic and team-building activity. This summer they had trainings in basketball, badminton, volleyball, circus, and were initiated to ballet movements.
