The Anglophone Crisis in Cameroon has left countless high school-aged children in the country deeply vulnerable, with many orphaned or forced to flee their homes due to violence and instability — making them refugees within their own country. Displacement has stripped them of stability, education, and basic security, while the trauma of conflict compounds their emotional and psychological needs. Orphaned and displaced adolescents face heightened risks of neglect, exploitation, and loss of cultural belonging if not supported within their communities. Our newest program addresses these issues by transitioning displaced adolescents from overcrowded collective shelters into safe and nurturing local households, where they can experience family stability, community integration, and consistent care, and attend high school without fear of being expelled for lack of funds. By strengthening and supporting host families, the initiative ensures that children’s basic needs — shelter, nutrition, education, and emotional well-being — are met in a sustainable way.
