Ibrahim was rescued from the streets of Mombasa in 2013. He says he ran away from home to avoid mistreatment by his step mother after her mother who was epileptic got separated from his father. He was 9 years when he ran to the street.
“I was abused, beaten and denied food. I had to go to school with an empty stomach almost every day. When I think of those days I feel like crying. They were hard days and I would sleep out in the open at night and scavenge for food from dustbins. I used to go to the beach to swim to pass time and I had to beg for money, food and clothes.
“One day I saw someone who came to talk to the boys on the streets. He sounded very friendly and convincing when he said if we wanted we could go back to school. I wondered who he was and when I asked my friends, the older boys, they said he was from Grandsons of Abraham. He was a social worker. I decided to follow him and that is how I ended up at Grandsons.
“Grandsons Centre has given me an opportunity to go back to school. I am so happy about this. After running from home I had no idea I would ever get to be in school again. I lost all hope and did not know what the future held in store for me. Though I liked school so much, I dreaded going back home for fear of being beaten and denied food. Now I go to school, I play football with my friends and I do a lot of drawing. I also love my teachers since they make me study and work hard to be a better person.”
Ibrahim is now in class 7 at Grandsons Education Centre. Next year he will sit his Certificate of Primary Education examination. He wants to be a pilot when he finishes school. He is a good artist and cannot stop to amaze his teachers with his drawings. It is because of the support that you, the donor, has made to Grandsons of Abraham Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre that Ibrahim and more than 100 other children are in school, are able to get balanced meals every day, are safe from abuse and can play and dream like all normal children. Thank you so much for your support. We will continue to keep you updated on the life changing impact that your donations are making.
